One of the simplest things to come by and one of the most difficult things to keep. Grace is a rare commodity. Naturally we understand it’s importance. The wisest of us have built time into our day for reflection and contemplation. Meditation is the formal and traditional way of building grace into our lives. Graciousness in this sense is goalless existence. This is important to realize and apply, because so much of our time is spent in transit. We are in between goals and constantly in motion from one to the other. Sometimes we pretend that this transit time is meditation. It is barely, because real meditation is more difficult. Real meditation is different because it is goalless. This is something of a spiritual mystery.
Sitting without a goal in mind, is a very strange idea. It could be called a practice of giving up hope – or it could be called a practice of complete confidence. Whatever we decide to name it, it’s challenging. When we sit without intending to do things – in rush our thoughts. Many people take this as evidence that they aren’t naturals at meditation. The truth is that the in-rush and seemingly increase of thought is natural. What the meditator is becoming aware of is the simple nature of the mind.
Sometimes this becomes too much for us, because no one’s teaching or saying this BIG secret, ‘It takes discipline to perfect working with the mind.’ are merely in a comfortable enough of a situation that it’s easy to pretend that we have control. Spaciousness and meditation remove such illusions when done properly. This often leads those with expectations of instant gratification to give up and turn back to our high speed culture for seeming comfort.
This is the practice of the Meditation lineage, even today it continues transforming confusion into sanity. We are this vehicle and we study to remove the confusion and doubt within us. We practice because we are not content to simply say the
words of spirituality, we know true wisdom is the embodiment of spiritual words. The emphasis is on authenticity, being authentic people and sharing that with others. We are working towards creating an environment of shared inner peace, we are committed to the vision of an enlightened world. This is the work we are most excited to participate in. Saturday mornings (with a few exceptions, see schedule below) a small group meets for meditation at The Chrysalis Institute, at 3527 Ellwood Ave. The class consists of 4, 15 minute meditations and thirty minutes of a talk-discussion. The format is roughly meditation – talk – finishing with meditation.
